Introduction
Refractionsteps.org provides a training tool for learning how to test eyesight using:
A lens set kit
A trial frame
A ±0.25 Jackson Cross Cylinder (occasionally a ±0.50)
The optometrist must be able to identify the red and silver etched lines on the Jackson Cross Cylinder.
Additional requirements:
Simple arithmetic, used primarily in two parts of the guide
A calculator or computer (optional) for these calculations
A pen and paper should be used to record axis values and intermediate calculations
Important: While this tool can technically be used as a guide during live refraction testing, Refractionsteps.org does not authorize its use for that purpose. It is approved strictly as a training tool - an interactive guide for simulating actual refraction tests.
